Privacy Policy
The short version.
Aurora is a generative painting app that runs almost entirely on your device. It has no accounts, keeps your content on your device, and collects only anonymous product-usage analytics — which you can turn off in the app. No advertising, no cross-app tracking.
Data we collect
Anonymous usage analytics only. Aurora uses PostHog to record anonymous product-usage events — for example that a mood was selected, that a focus or breathing session began or finished, that the control panel was opened, or that a capture was saved — so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. These events are not linked to your identity and carry no personal information and no content — never your notes, your photos, or the images you create.
Events include the approximate, city-level region they came from, derived from your IP address when they arrive. The IP address itself is discarded immediately and never stored, so nothing more precise than your general area is kept.
We do not build advertising profiles, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and Aurora uses no advertising identifier (IDFA). Aurora collects no crash or diagnostic data. PostHog processes these events on our behalf; see PostHog's privacy policy for details.
You can turn analytics off at any time: open the control panel (two-finger tap or the corner button), tap the info button to show the guide, and set usage to off. Aurora stops sending events immediately, and the choice persists across launches. Aurora has no accounts and no login.
Data stored on your device
Aurora keeps a few small preferences on your device so it can remember your settings between sessions:
- Your chosen mood, focus-session length, and breathing pattern.
- A short local record of completed focus sessions — used only to replant your in-app forest and show your focus streak.
This information is stored locally using the operating system's standard preferences storage. It never leaves your device, is readable only by Aurora, and is removed if you delete the app.
Photos
If you choose to save a still capture of your canvas, Aurora writes that image to your own photo library. Aurora only ever adds images you explicitly save; it never reads, browses, or uploads your existing photos. iOS will ask your permission the first time you save.
Notifications
If you start a focus session, Aurora may schedule a local notification to let you know the session is complete. These notifications are generated on your device — nothing is sent through a server, and Aurora does not use push notifications. iOS will ask your permission the first time.
Live Activities
During a focus session, Aurora can show a Live Activity, including on the Dynamic Island. This is updated locally on your device and involves no network activity.
Children
Aurora contains no objectionable content and collects no personal data, so it is suitable for all ages. The anonymous usage analytics described above are not directed at children and contain no information that identifies any user.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's App Store privacy information.
